The continued teaching with the successor institution Institute for Ministry Development from 2002-2013. With IMD they taught completely on an extension basis throughout the area holding regular classes in most reservation churches in western South Dakota. The Assemblies of God credentialed or advanced the credential of at least 35 of their students over their last 8 years in South Dakota. Prior to their appointment with US Missions they were pastors for 12 years in Missouri.

BURDEN AND VISION

As is necessary and Biblically mandated the mostly non-Indian churches have been sending and continue to send missionaries to the Indian peoples. However, the American Indian has also been oppressed, deceived, and robbed by whites for hundreds of years. This history of the two groups is an inherent limit on the effectiveness of those missionaries. The result has been that today only a small portion of over 8 million Native Americans have actually heard the Gospel in a culturally comprehensible form and the fraction of practicing believers is very small. There is a solution. In the world of missions, people hear the Gospel from the outside, and then God calls some of those who have believed into ministry. After training, these God-called believers reach the bulk of their people.
This pattern is Biblically sound and has been effective in missions around the world. Training Native Americans to reach Native Americans follows this Biblical pattern of missionary practice and provides the best possibility for reaching the bulk of Native American peoples. John and Gay are working to obey the Biblical commands to "teach them all things whatsoever I have commanded you"-and doing so-"both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth"
